The business operates across 2 main divisions, Gleeson Homes and Gleeson Strategic Land. Gleeson Homes specialises in low-cost house building, providing new homes to young people and low-income families in the North of England and the Midlands, helping to get first-time buyers onto the housing ladder. Gleeson Strategic Land specialises in land promotion, securing attractive residential planning consents on land mainly in the South of England, which ultimately helps to provide new homes in areas where housing need is high.

Gleeson Homes has experienced rapid growth over recent years and is looking for an Accounts Assistant to join the team. The role will have specific responsibility of all aspects of the Group's cashbook and will involve working with various people across the whole finance team and wider business.

Role Responsibility

Cashbook Management

  • Daily Cashbook posting of all the Group’s bank accounts
  • Daily reporting of cash balances and variances against forecast
  • Daily and monthly bank reconciliations

Payment Processing

  • Raising same day bank payments ensuring that all are approved as per the Group’s delegated level of authority and finance policies
  • Raising the Purchase and Sub Contract Ledger weekly and monthly payments and work with Accounts Payable team to deal with queries
  • Administrate the Treasury inbox to ensure payment requests are made on a timely manner and queries from across the business are dealt with promptly
  • Bacs Submission of Payments and Expenses

Other Treasury Activities

  • Preparing and submitting CIS return together with statement of deductions
  • Post credit card transactions and ensure that statements are kept up to date
  • Reconciliation of the VAT suspense account and ensuring that payments are made in line with VAT policies
  • Training and mentoring an AAT apprentice
  • Other ad-hoc assistance to the wider Management Accounts team

The Ideal Candidate

  • Candidate must have experience of Finance roles that includes banking, cashbook and Purchase Ledger.
  • AAT Level 4 Qualified
  • Excellent communication skills and professional attitude as role will involve working with various internal and external stakeholders as well as senior finance team members.
  • Strong IT skills (MS office) and accounting software (experience of COINS accounting system is beneficial but not essential)
  • Ability to work to deadlines including month end closes, with attention to detail
  • Highly motivated with a strong work ethic and willingness to get involved when opportunities arise.
