Accounts Payable Manager

The business operates across 2 main divisions, Gleeson Homes and Gleeson Strategic Land. Gleeson Homes specialises in low-cost house building, providing new homes to young people and low-income families in the North of England and the Midlands, helping to get first-time buyers onto the housing ladder. Gleeson Strategic Land specialises in land promotion, securing attractive residential planning consents on land mainly in the South of England, which ultimately helps to provide new homes in areas where housing need is high.

Due to continued rapid growth across the business, a new role has opened for an experienced Accounts Payable Manager to lead an exciting transformation project of the Accounts Payable function. Managing a team of 12 Cost Controllers, the role will be responsible for reviewing and improving all aspects of the purchase to pay process, working closely alongside the wider Management Accounts Team and Homes FD.

Role Responsibility

  • Lead and manage a transformation project of accounts payable processes and procedures
  • Line management of a team of 12 Cost Controllers
  • Overseeing the accurate and timely processing of all purchase ledger and subcontract ledger invoices
  • Regular reporting on accounts payable balances and transactional volumes
  • Managing supplier statement reconciliations and supplier queries
  • Reviewing and approving supplier payment runs
  • Ensuring compliance with VAT and CIS

The Ideal Candidate

  • Experience of managing and developing large accounts payable teams
  • Proven capability of identifying and implementing process improvements
  • A confident IT user with strong Excel skills and experience of using ERP systems (ideally COINS)
  • Previous exposure to high transaction volume environment
  • Subcontract processing experience, including knowledge of CIS
  • Strong communication and influencing skills
