Environmental Manager

Job Introduction

We have an exciting opportunity for an experience Environmental Manager aligned to our vision, mission, values and our approach to performance excellence, whilst positively influencing and enhancing the environmental performance of the business.

The role of the Environmental Manager will deliver an environmental management  framework to provide policies, procedures and processes to reduce risk and maximise environmental opportunities, whilst creating audit, corrective actions and continuous improvement plans and processes. The Environmental Manager will work closely with the Health and Safety Team to provide integration (where possible) with our Health and Safety system to  enable a clear focus on environmental performance without compromising health and safety performance.

Main Responsibilities  

  • Spearheading the drive for environmental performance, continual improvement and environmental awareness
  • Develop and deliver a strategy to reduce environmental impacts and improve environmental performance
  • Deliver an environmental management system to ISO 14001 framework 
  • Managing and undertaking audits for environmental practices, processes & compliance
  • In conjunction with other Group functions, develop and implement an integrated audit programme
  • Support with risk identification and the implementation of mitigation strategies 
  • Incident response, investigation and reporting
  • Support the delivery of the Group’s environmental sustainability strategy, targets and actions
  • Support with relevant ESG and other public disclosures 
  • Liaising with regulatory bodies as required (e.g. Environment Agency, EHO’s)
  • keeping up to date with relevant changes in environmental legislation and initiatives including horizon scanning 
  • Assessing, analysing and collating environmental performance data for internal reporting 
  • Developing and delivering a robust environmental training & awareness programme
  • Assisting build operatives to enhance environmental performance

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • A relevant qualification in an appropriate environmental discipline e.g. environmental science
  • Professional membership to a recognised environmental / sustainability body (IEMA, CIEEM, CIWEM)
  • Demonstrable environmental management experience, ideally as a practitioner within the construction sector
  • Thorough knowledge and experience in the implementation, maintenance and continual improvement of ISO 14001:2015 EMS 
  • Experienced in auditing environmental performance
  • Commercial awareness: the ability to work within commercial constraints
  • Self-motivated and ability to drive projects
  • Excellent planning, project management, organisation, and decision-making capability.
  • Ability to influence effectively at all levels including key Senior Executives, Directors, and other Stakeholders.
  • Strong problem solving and analysis skills.
  • Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills. 
  • Flexible and adaptable to changing requirements.
  • Internal / lead auditor trained (desirable)
  • IOSH Managing Safely Certificate (desirable) 
  • Working knowledge of ISO 45001 and integration of management systems (desirable)
