Job Introduction
The Central Services Finance Manager plays a key role in ensuring the financial integrity of and accurate financial reporting from the Central Services business and a Gleeson Homes consolidated position. Providing financial management and working collaboratively with the Gleeson Homes financial operations, as well as partnering with key stakeholders within Central Services, this role ensures robust production of monthly management accounts, controls overheads and supports accurate forecasting and budgeting. Working closely with the Gleeson Homes Financial Controller, the Finance Manager will be driving consistency across the Regional Finance Teams.
Main responsibilities
- Management Accounts: Responsibility for the production of month end financials for Central Services and the Gleeson Homes consolidated position, following the MJ Gleeson Plc Accounting Policies and manual of accounting. Judgements should be agreed with the Gleeson Homes FD or FC and made in a transparent way, with support prepared. Support given to the Gleeson Homes FC in the preparation of Board commentary to explain each month’s results. The Finance Manager is expected to proactively bring suggestions to improve efficiency of the management accounts process and take an active involvement in changes to accounting standards, policy and procedure.
- Budgeting & Forecasting: Preparation of budgets and financial forecasts for Central Services, working closely alongside the Gleeson Homes FC and the Regional Finance Teams. Partnering with key stakeholders within Central Services throughout the year to hold the business accountable for spend and support with investment case preparation.
- Overheads Management: Ensure that Central Services overhead costs are accurately recorded, analysed, tracked and understood, with appropriate challenge given both directly and via the Gleeson Homes FD and FC.
- Balance Sheet Ownership: The Finance Manager is expected to have a deep understanding of the Central Services balance sheet, producing monthly balance sheet reconciliations and explaining the composition of each balance sheet area, in detail, to the Gleeson Homes FD and FC. The Finance Manager will also support with the Regional Balance Sheet reconciliation process to ensure that all balances are appropriately reviewed across the Homes business.
- Insight and Support: Provide financial insight and support with ad hoc information requests as required by the Gleeson Homes FD, FC, and other Central Service Leadership, and coordinate such requests from Regional Finance Teams when required.
- Consistencies and efficiencies: Act as a central point of contact for all Regional Finance Teams to ensure best practice is shared and work is being performed consistently across all of the regions.
- Financial statements and annual audit: Support the Gleeson Homes FD and FC and subsequently the Group Finance Team in the production of the audit packs which support the statutory financial statements for the legal entities relevant to Gleeson Homes, and assisting with the timely resolution of audit queries throughout the year-end audit process.
- Collaboration with FP&A: Support the Head of FP&A with the continued implementation and best practice use of Anaplan for the whole Gleeson Homes Finance Team.
- Coaching & Mentoring: Management of small team, both direct reports who support across Homes management accounts and Apprentices. Requires a coaching and mentoring approach to ensure that junior members of the team are supported in their development. Full support can be provided if this is a new skill.
Required skills and qualifications
- Qualification: Hold a professional accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent).
- Systems Knowledge: Strong Excel skills are essential. While we would consider applicants new to COINS and Anaplan, experience in these systems, especially model building within Anaplan, would be advantageous.
- Attention to Detail: Keen eye for data accuracy, and a drive to highlight and correct errors or inconsistencies before reports are circulated.
- Organization & Time Management: Able to manage multiple priorities, working effectively to meet tight deadlines.
- Communication: Excellent communication skills and proven ability to develop strong relationships with key operational stakeholders.
