Financial Controller - Homes Division

Job Introduction

The business operates across 2 main divisions, Gleeson Homes and Gleeson Strategic Land. Gleeson Homes specialises in low-cost house building, providing new homes to young people and low-income families in the North of England and the Midlands, helping to get first-time buyers onto the housing ladder. Gleeson Strategic Land specialises in land promotion, securing attractive residential planning consents on land mainly in the South of England, which ultimately helps to provide new homes in areas where housing need is high.

Gleeson Homes has experienced rapid growth over recent years and achieved 25% volume growth in the year to June 2019. As part of organisational structure changes, a new senior finance role has opened for a Financial Controller for the Homes Division. The role will work closely with the Homes Finance Director and Management Accounts team, together with the CFO and other key stakeholders across the business.

Role Responsibility

  • Key member of the senior finance team supporting the Homes FD
  • Ownership over the production of monthly management accounts for the Homes Division
  • Regular balance sheet and cashflow reviews, ensuring key reconciliations undertaken
  • Development of weekly, monthly and annual reporting of actual results
  • Analysing trends to inform key operational decision makers
  • Oversight and involvement in preparation of budgets and financial forecasts
  • Lead interactions with external audit and tax advisors
  • Provide direction and supervision to the Management Accounts team
  • Specific projects and other analysis as required by the Homes FD, CFO and wider business

The Ideal Candidate

  • A qualified accountant (e.g. ACA, CIMA, ACCA) with 5+ years PQE
  • Previous experience of operating in a senior finance role, either in industry or direct from practice
  • Excellent communication skills and proven ability to develop strong relationships with key stakeholders
  • High attention to detail, ensuring integrity in financial reporting
  • A strong IT user able to deal effectively with a high volume of data
  • An ambitious team player with a strong work ethic and the ability to lead and inspire others
