Job Introduction
Here at Gleeson the Group Commercial Director is a key appointment which includes taking full responsibility for all commercial operations and activities across the company. The business consists of 3 Divisions made up of 9 Regional Offices across the North of England, together with the Group Commercial and Procurement teams at Sheffield Head Office. Reporting to the Group MD of Gleeson Homes, the ideal candidate should be a dynamic and results driven individual with senior level leadership experience working within a high-volume housebuilding company.
Role Responsibility
Purpose of the Role
An experienced Commercial Director who will add value to our growth activities by identifying new commercial opportunities and managing all commercial direction of the business. As Group Commercial Director you will keep abreast of trends and market conditions to provide strategic advice to senior management. You will also be a creative strategist with excellent organisational abilities and people skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement commercial strategies according to company controlled growth plans
- Create detailed business plans on commercial opportunities (expansion, cost control, systems development, etc.)
- Take ownership of controlling all site costs and margins by working collaboratively with the commercial team
- Ensure that CVRs are robust and accurately reflect expected costs and revenues
- Own and develop the Commercial and Procurement functions within the business
- Management and reporting of any commercial risks to the business and mitigation planning against such risks
- Act to acquire new sub-contractors and manage relationships (new and existing)
- Enhance the subcontract partnerships and improve production levels quality and safety
- Collaborate with and coordinate diverse teams (land, technical, sales, construction)
- Build and maintain profitable partnerships with key stakeholders
- Monitor performance of commercial activities using key metrics and prepare reports for senior management
- Assist in setting financial targets and budget development and monitoring
- Ensure budgets are robust and support land purchase margins
- Ensure the Regional Offices and Head Office commercial teams work collaboratively to deliver robust CTC/valuations in accordance with company policy
- Own build cost and specifications
- Develop and manage Group Procurement deals
- Systems development Including COINS
The Ideal Candidate
- Proven experience as Commercial Director or other relevant Executive Role at a Senior Level
- Solid knowledge of performance reporting and financial/budgeting processes
- Commercial awareness partnered with a strategic mind-set
- Excellent organizational and leadership skills
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal abilities
- BSc in Quantity Surveying or relevant field (experience in addition to similar qualification levels considered)
