Group Drainage Manager (Land)

Job Introduction

To be responsible for the early inception/evolution of drainage proposals on new development sites being acquired by the business to ensure the correct design is identified to be carried through to implementation.

Role Responsibility

  • To assist land managers during land bid preparation in identifying appropriate initial drainage proposals/feasibilities.
  • To undertake full drainage reviews of all sites which progress to offer acceptance to ensure that the most efficient and practical drainage design is being carried forward into the planning and implementation stages.
  • To advise on the most appropriate and cost effective SuDS solution available on sites, or to make the case for traditional “non-SuDs” solutions where appropriate.
  • Where appropriate to provide ad-hoc support in respect of ‘live’ sites where matters pertaining to drainage arise which require expert input.
  • As appropriate to interact directly with statutory bodies, Local Authorities and external consultants with regards to the satisfactory resolution of drainage matters including agreement of drainage and technical designs through the planning and technical approval processes, agreeing discharge rates with relevant bodies etc.
  • As appropriate to work with and/or assist other Departments and/or colleagues in respect of the same above matters.
  • As appropriate to research and attend seminars, conferences and events to keep fully informed of the current and key issues affecting drainage matters.

The Ideal Candidate

  • The role requires a strong knowledge base of all matters pertaining to drainage. 
  • Knowledge of the house building industry gained preferably with a high volume house builder.
  • Educated to degree level in a relevant discipline
  • Possess strong negotiation skills
  • A broad technical understanding
  • A broad understanding of the residential planning process
  • An understanding of the land acquisition process is desirable but not essential
  • An understanding /user of AutoCAD is desirable but not essential
