Head of Financial Reporting

Job Introduction

The Group comprises 2 trading divisions, Gleeson Homes and Gleeson Land. Gleeson Homes specialises in low-cost house building, providing new homes in the North of England and the Midlands for the people who need them most. Over 80% of our customers are first time buyers and around two thirds are key workers. 4 out 5 of our homes are built in the most deprived areas of the UK. Gleeson Land specialises in promoting land, securing attractive residential planning consents on land mainly in the South of England, which is supplied to other housebuilders to meet their increasing need for high quality consented sites.


Due to continued rapid growth across the business and an internal change in roles, the Group is looking for a Head of Financial Reporting to join a highly skilled and professional Finance team. This senior role will be responsible for developing the internal and external financial reporting of the Group, whilst also helping to further strengthen the Group Finance team and providing support to the Group Financial Controller.

Role Responsibility

  • Managing the interim and annual reporting for the Group and 7 trading subsidiaries (all IFRS)
  • Developing the Group’s reporting content including “front end” disclosures in the annual report
  • Ensuring the latest reporting requirements and guidance are adhered to
  • Managing stakeholder expectations in the annual reporting process
  • Providing oversight and management for internal monthly reporting
  • Helping to coordinate the external audit process with the auditors
  • Providing technical accounting leadership to the wider Finance team
  • Supporting internal control development and compliance for financial reporting
  • Developing a team of five other people within the Group finance function
  • Ad hoc Group projects/analysis

The Ideal Candidate

  • Qualified accountant ACA or ACCA
  • Minimum five years post qualification experience
  • Prior experience within group finance setting and/or group audit experience
  • Experience with listed company annual reporting is preferred
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills – ability to liaise directly with the CFO and other stakeholders, providing regular updates on progress and issues
  • Project management skills – ability to set and prioritise deadlines, drive team progress, and keep multiple projects running at the same time
  • People management – support the team culture, maintain motivation and morale, and champion people development
  • Attention to detail and quality – provide leadership to the team on the delivery of high-quality work at all times as part of a highly motivated, professional team
