Junior Legal Counsel

Job Introduction

Gleeson have a unique opportunity for a Junior Legal Counsel to join our newly established legal department.  As Junior Legal Counsel you will report directly into the Head of Legal and Company Secretary, and will cover a breadth of legal disciplines.

Role Responsibility

  • Providing accurate, relevant, and timely advice on property, HR, corporate and construction matters; commercial contracts, consumer and commercial disputes and data protection and other regulatory requirements.
  • Managing the Company’s legacy property portfolio.
  • Reviewing and negotiating a wide number of the Company’s commercial contracts and terms and conditions.  
  • Managing and mitigating the Company’s disputes, including entering commercial negotiations with disputing parties, defending Court actions and claims made through the Consumer Code for Housebuilders Independent Dispute Resolution Scheme or the NHBC Dispute Resolution Service.
  • Reviewing contracts and legal reports relating to the purchase of land for development, and engaging with external legal advisors.
  • Ensuring that the Group complies with its Data Protection obligations, including managing any suspected or actual data breaches, and data subject access requests.
  • Assisting the Legal and HR departments in providing guidance and training on legal and regulatory compliance matters.
  • Assisting in the development and implementation of new procedures and processors for legal and regulatory compliance.
  • Supporting the Head of Legal and Company Secretary with company secretarial administration.
  • Involvement in the Home Builders Federation Legal Forum.

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will be a newly qualified solicitor of NQ-1 PQE level, with experience in conveyancing, commercial property, and litigation. However, applicants with other experiences will be considered.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Excellent communication skills, and ability to develop strong relationships with a range of people within the Group.
  • An outgoing, positive thinker, who can demonstrate consistent levels of enthusiasm.
  • Commercial drive to see the continuing growth of the Group.
  • A strong academic background.
  • The ability to work independently and integrated into multi-disciplinary teams.
  • The ability to prioritise work, and to work to strict timetables where required.
  • Strong IT competency.
