Land & Planning Assistant

Job Introduction

Gleeson Homes has an existing opportunity for an individual who has recently completed an apprenticeship or college course in the fields of either construction, planning or quantity surveying. An opportunity to join an established land department within our central head office function.

This is a varied role, with a primary focus on assisting/facilitating the group ‘bid audit’ function including carrying out road and area ‘take offs’ and checking cost and value inputs.

The role also includes other ad-hoc land and planning duties to support the department. The role is expected to provide progression opportunities in the fields of land buying and planning for the right applicant in due course.

Role Responsibility

To facilitate the land ‘bid audit’ process, including:

  • “Taking off” roads and areas.
  • Checking cost and value inputs put forward in appraisal.
  • Coordinating input from other members of the audit process (technical/drainage/planning) to ensure bids are put forward in a timely manner.

General admin including:

  • Typing
  • Filing
  • Photocopying
  • Binding

Assisting in preparation of planning applications including:

  • Printing/compiling reports and drawings
  • Occasional liaison with/’chasing’ consultants
  • Assisting in production of ‘in-house’ reports

Assisting in preparation of land offer bid packs including:

  • Printing/compiling reports and drawings
  • Applying for service records
  • Typing of offer letters

Assisting with production of weekly/monthly schedules including:

  • Typing/compiling
  • Liaison with regional Land Managers to chase up

Assisting with land opportunity identification including:

  • Reviewing ‘Local Plans’
  • Reviewing Barbour ABI information

Assisting with Planning Policy identification including:

  • Reviewing ‘Local Plans’

The Ideal Candidate

  • An individual who has recently completed an apprenticeship or college course in the fields of either construction, planning or quantity surveying (or other relevant discipline).
  • The role requires strong computer literacy, with familiarity with all the standard Microsoft Office applications.   
  • Knowledge of the house building industry preferable.
  • Knowledge of the land and planning process preferable.
  • An understanding /user of AutoCAD is desirable but not essential.
