The business operates across 2 main divisions, Gleeson Homes and Gleeson Strategic Land. Gleeson Homes specialises in low-cost house building, providing new homes to young people and low-income families in the North of England and the Midlands, helping to get first-time buyers onto the housing ladder. Gleeson Strategic Land specialises in land promotion, securing attractive residential planning consents on land mainly in the South of England, which ultimately helps to provide new homes in areas where housing need is high.

Due to continual growth, Gleeson Homes are now looking for a Management Accountant to work within our Homes division. Working as part of the existing Management Accounts team (a Senior Management Accountant and three Assistant Management Accountants), you will be responsible for accurate and timely management reporting and deal with a variety of finance related queries from the wider business.

This is a new role, and we are looking for an enthusiastic individual, able to both deliver to deadlines and manage their own workload. We continue to seek to improve our processes and expect the successful applicant to be someone able to support that process.

Role Responsibility

  • Monthly management accounts for Head Office, working closely with the regional Assistant Management Accountants in order to produce the results for the division
  • Posting site cost of sales for the Homes business as a whole and reviewing actual Gross Profit for each site
  • Accruals, prepayments and fixed asset register for Head Office
  • Processing general ledger journals on the COINS IT system
  • Balance sheet reconciliations. This will involve both performing reconciliations but also taking ownership of investigating and resolving any items found
  • Understanding variances between reported and budgeted results and communicating these internally as appropriate
  • Review and approval of Bank Payments and Bacs, ensuring correct procedure and approval process is being followed
  • Preparation of regular reporting and KPI analysis
  • Ad hoc analysis as required by the Finance Director, Financial Controller, CFO and the wider business
  • The successful applicant is also likely to be asked to lead on ad hoc projects, interacting with other areas of the business

The Ideal Candidate

  • A qualified accountant (e.g. ACA / ACCA / CIMA)
  • The role would possibly suit a first time mover from practice
  • The successful applicant must be able to demonstrate that they are self-motivated and keen to take advantage of the development opportunities afforded from working in a large listed environment
  • A confident IT user with strong Excel skills and an ability to pick up new IT systems quickly
  • Attention to detail, ensuring that monthly reporting is both accurate and complete
  • A team player with strong communication skills and a can-do attitude
  • Experience of working to tight timescales, whether in practice or month end reporting in a larger business or Plc environment
