Regional Managing Surveyor/Commercial Manager

Job Introduction

Gleeson Homes are recruiting a Regional Managing Quantity Surveyor/Commercial Manager, depending on experience, to be based out of Sheffield that will support and coach regional QS and ensure budget are produced and subcontractors are procured in accordance with the agreed timetable.

Role Responsibility

  • Production of site start budgets, prior to commencement of Superstructure House build.
  • Procure all subcontract trades involving other key members of the team ensuring best value is obtained and all subcontractor prequalification criteria have been satisfied.
  • Manage the payment process for specialist subcontractors and help the other members of the payments team to ensure payments are made in accordance with the agreed payment terms.
  • Evaluate and if appropriate, approve payments of Dayworks and applications for both labour only and package subcontractors.
  • In accordance with the prescribed timetable, review /approve monthly performance valuations, including cost to complete assessments using the approved system.
  • Attendance at management team/department meetings at various locations which may be outside of the usual workplace.
  • In conjunction with the Build Manager, host meetings when required with subcontractors to review performance.
  • Management of agreed performance indicators including regular updates to the Group Commercial Director/Regional Director.
  • Guide and advise staff on contractual issues
  • Guide and develop site staff, identifying training where necessary
  • Ensuring/maintaining Gleeson best practice within the BU, to include updates and whistleblowing when/if required to the Group Commercial Director.
  • Identify potential risks and evaluate options for control.
  • Attend training and development events as required.
  • Any other duties reasonably requested.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Previous experience similar house building role is essential
  • A good understanding of all aspects of surveying and contractual procedures
  • Strong personal organisational skills and ability to work and prioritise to the set deadlines.
  • Ability to work in isolation but also as part of a team within a growing business.
  • Computer literacy especially in Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong leadership qualities that will steer the BU in the right direction.
