To support the Planning Director as required in managing the Planning department to ensure that the objectives and targets of the business plan are met.
Assume additional responsibilities as required in providing that support function including the mentoring and potential management of junior staff
Ensure the Planning Department supports the Land Department in its acquisition of new sites
Be cognisant of relevant National and Local Planning Policy changes that might affect the business and share these with the Team/Company as necessary.
This will be a 12 Month Fixed Term contract.
Main responsibilities
In addition to existing responsibilities:-
- Deputising for the Planning Director at internal and external meetings as required
- Assume responsibility for managing the planning function in the Planning Director absence
- Assume Line Management responsibility, as required, for new members of the Planning Department
- Assist the Planning Director in the allocation (to the Planning Team) of new sites for site assessment in support of the Land Department. Review and validate assessments on their return and return to Land Department in a timely manner
- Attend interviews for new site opportunities as required in support of the Land Department
- With the Planning Director, ensure that the Planning Team work in close collaboration with the R & A Department and in particular in terms of Local Plan representations
Required skills and qualifications
- A master's degree in Town or Spatial Planning, or similar relevant degree with a minimum of 8 years post qualification experience.
- Ability to lead and manage teams of specialist consultants.
- Ability to manage planning staff and provide instruction/delegation of work as necessary
- Ability to work independently
- Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- A driving licence is essential, fuel card is provided
