Job Introduction:

Gleeson Homes have an exciting opportunity for a Technical Director to join our team. As our Technical Director,  you will work closely with the Regional Managing Director, the Technical & Commercial team and the wider business to lead the effective delivery of all design and engineering services and solutions across, and in close collaboration, with all other departments, contributing to the achievement of development budgets and build/development programmes, whilst being part of the regional management team contributing to all aspects of the business to help deliver key performance indicators.

Main Responsibilities:

A High level summary of key responsibilities:

  • Provide directional leadership to create and manage a high performing team that deliver technical expertise, design, approvals and subsequent infrastructure required for all projects within the region, who are commercially aware and working with established budgets to provide a cost effective and time aligned project and team performance.
  • Lead the process of appointing, engaging and managing external consultants (Planning, Architectural, Engineering), to ensure they support and commercially deliver against requirements covering areas such as: road and sewer designs, external works and drainage solutions; value engineering of infrastructure designs; cost effective foundation schedules in line with Geotech reports; remediation strategies; statutory service requirements, etc
  • Manage relationships with consultants and all other parties/stakeholders including statutory bodies, local authorities, planners, suppliers and sub-contractors as necessary to ensure the flow of key deliverables and associated information and compliance within agreed timescales and standards in accordance, and on schedule with the set programmes and at all stages of each planning submission.
  • Develop and execute the regional technical strategy, working closely with Group Technical. ensuring that operational and technical practices and ways of working are aligned to the regions objectives, Group standards and all other KPIs and operational targets.
  • Inspire and develop a regional technical team capable of consistently delivering high levels of performance showing clear evidence of recruiting and retaining calibre colleagues who work to and follow clearly detailed action and development plans.
  • Continually review and monitor the performance of the technical team against agreed KPIs and in doing so continually maintain individual and team performance of all technical team members by actively sup-porting, coaching, mentoring, motivating and challenging team members, instigating appropriate motivational and corrective action using performance management tools.
  • Provide respected and valued technical support to the Construction and Sales departments during and throughout the development cycle of sites from pre-development through to site completion.

The Ideal Candidate:

  • A relevant degree/qualification in Engineering or Architecture is preferable but not essential.
  • Experience of co-ordinating, managing and providing technical guidance and support to residential developments and associated non-residential projects.
  • Extensive experience required in the Design Construction, Project Management of Civil Engineering Infrastructure, traffic and transportation.
  • Detailed knowledge of contract management and contract law.
  • Detailed knowledge of utility companies, procedures, license and legislating framework.
  • Extensive experience of planning procedures, development control and building regulations requirements.
  • Ability to manage consortium and specialist complex consortium development projects.
  • Remediation and development of brownfield or formerly developed land experience essential.
  • Technically competent in using AutoCAD.
  • Good strong Design, Engineering and Construction knowledge.
  • Exceptional stakeholder management, with resilience & maturity to face challenges from senior members of the business & deliver a positive outcome.
  • Able to balance multiple priorities within a fast-changing and demanding environment.
  • Excellent coaching skills with history of developing Technical excellence and undertaking career development conversations
  • Broad awareness of codes of practice that impact on Technical matters e.g. NHBC, Building Regs.
  • Broad awareness of Health & Safety/CDM Regulations.
